I recently purchased Deponia on Steam but ran into an annoying issue when trying to start the game. A black window poped up but the game didn’t start, instead it exited without giving further notice about what went wrong.

As I browsed through the SteamApps/common/Deponia/ folder I noticed there was a stderr.txt file. I opened it and it contained a useless error message:

Entity: line 1: error: xmlParseChunkVIS3

Luckily I managed to find out the reason as well as a solution for this error message, though.

Reason: Apparently older games from Daedalic Entertainment or older versions of Deponia use a different game engine than the Steam version and therefore are incompatible to some files of the Steam version.

Solution:
1. Push the following buttons WindowsButton+R and paste the following path:

"%APPDATA%\..\Local\Daedalic Entertainment\Deponia\"

2. Hit enter

3. Delete (or backup) the Savegames folder as well as the config.ini

4. Restart the game through Steam and it should work
