Windows 7: Disable Search Indexer

by on Sep.01, 2011, under Random()

The Search Indexing service attempts to speed up search processes by scanning and indexing all files and folders stored on a drive. This process highly decreases the time a search process needs to finish. For users with a slow computer it’s beneficial to turn off the search indexing, though. In order to disable this service, you should perform the following steps:

1.) Click Start, type services.msc and press enter. Optionally you can press [Windows] + [R] and enter services.msc into the “Run application” dialog.

2.) The Services dialog should be displayed. Locate the service called Windows Search, right click it and choose Properties.

3.) Change the “Startup type” of the service to Disabled.

4.) Click the Apply button and reboot your computer.

That’s it, Search Indexing has been disabled successfully!
