VMWare Workstation: Failed to create the requested registry key error: 1021 (Fix)

Today I came across an error saying ‘Failed to create the requested registry key error: 1021’ when installing VMWare Workstations 8.0. This error occurred because I’ve already had other VMWare products installed on my machine in the past.
In order to fix this problem I had to remove the old VMWare registry entries.
Simply start regedit (Start -> regedit.exe)
For 32-bit systems remove the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.
For 64-bit systems remove the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\VMware, Inc.
After removing these keys I was able to successfully install VMWare Workstations 8.
