Ubuntu: Extract tar.gz archives (Tarballs)

by on Jul.24, 2010, under Linux (Ubuntu)

Especially when you’re going to install new applications, it’s often important to extract tar.gz archives. Luckily Ubuntu actually does have all necessary tools onboard, meaning you do not need to install additional software, in order to extract those archives. Simply do it like that:

tar -xvzf somefile.tar.gz

and replace somefile.tar.gz with your tarball, which will allow you to unpack it. 🙂
